I've been riding for a while now, and I still can't figure out the whole glove thing. I love my elkskin ropers that I got from Aerostich, and they're good about 75% of the time I ride. However, they are not way warm, so not good for the colder days, and they soak up water like a sponge when I get caught in the rain (I literally have to wring them out!). So, what to do? Do I have to have 2 or more additional pairs of gloves - one pair for cold/wet riding, and one pair for warm/wet riding?!? I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible!!! What about liners and/or rain covers? Anyone have any recommendations?!? I don't want a garage full of gloves!

when its cold out try wearing some latex gloves under them to stop the wind chill. Helps some. As for rain you might be able to scotchguard them...not sure. Other than that I do have 2 pairs of gloves, one for winter and one for summer. Winter gloves should always be waterproof!

2 pairs I could do. I guess I just need to pick the right two pairs.

Thanks for the idea on the latex gloves - cheap and easy to pack! When I rule the site, you can be one of my favored lackeys!

No disrespect to prekarious - if it works for him great - but I'd think the latex might be a fair bit less comfortable than silk liners.

Yep, I've been running into the same issue lately. I've pretty much determined
that wearing tight fitting leather gloves, even with liners, just doesn't cut it
when it's below 40. Fingers start getting real cold after about 20-30 minutes.
I pulled out an old pair of winter gloves (nylon/leather) with gauntlets out
of the closet and it makes a world of difference. I may just use these for
the time being, as the pair of winter motorcycle gloves I was looking at
cost around $80.

For cold weather riding, I would choose glove inserts over laytex gloves. If you don't know what I'm talking about, they're really thin cloth gloves meant to be worn under bigger gloves for added warmth. It won't protect you from the rain though. The laytex would be better for that.

i actually wear 2 pairs of gloves around this time of the season. ist pair i put on are waterproof golf gloves by a company named allsteads. (belive me they work) then i put a heavey leather gloves on, with thinsulate insulation. it works the best. until i stop cheapin out and go buy real gear.

OK, Harsh admition time here. The winter gloves that I have my wife bought for me as a present. They are extremely warm and the only problem that I have with them is occasionally the wind cuts through but not the temp (thats what the latex is for, kinda like a wind breaker). Downfall to these gloves is that they are Harley Davidson brand so were over priced but I must admit do the job quite well. I believe she said they were around $85 or so. Bit pricey but think about how much you spend on a helmet. When it comes to gear you get what you pay for.

I did see some good ideas that I might end up trying if it actually gets cold enough here. This will be my first winter in Fl so not sure of what to expect just yet. I was in NC before so do remember what cold can be like.

I have 2 sets of gloves ...

One pair, textile with Gore Tex from Racer (www.racer.at) - great for early spring and late fall, but way too hot in summer. (I can't put them on when my hands are too sweaty).

For the summer, I have a set of thin kangaroo skin gloves from Held. They cost me about $50.00 but the're worth every penny!
