But not necessarily moto. I need some ideas! Don't laugh. I need to figure out a way to carry a cane on the Gixxer.

A bum knee for the last 20 something years is becoming a real problem and a knee replacement is out of the question right now. So having a cane handy on the bad days would be a big help.

I'm thinking it could go on the sub frame below the tail, but the problem is:
1- How to mount it securely.
2- How to make it easily removeable.
3- How to do it with out drilling the subframe.

Probably much easier to park the bike and stop riding until I can get a knee replacement, but that will never happen. I have to ride. So any ideas or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Thanks!

yeah i was thinking of a folding cane as well!! as for mounting it... well if you had a folding cane. then you could either have it mount'd to your back. or on either side of your tail section on your bike!!!

Hehehe ... the folding cane is for a blind person, not as a walking assistance.

AFAIK, they do make canes that can be screwed together like a pool cue (and disassembled to fit in a backpack or under your seat), but I have no idea how much something like this would cost. I'm sure with a bit of creativity and an afternoon in the shop, you could custom build something that would do the job (and possibly start a new career as a portable cane designer and manufaturer).

Go for it, Dale!

Funny, I was think about the pool cue idea as well. If you goto a pro shop for pool table supplies they would have all the parts.

What about a pool cue that was cut down to size. You could cut some off of the top and some off of the bottom, it would unscrew in half, get an eight ball for the hand rest, that would be cool.

You would be able to put it in a tank bag or back pack with no troubles. I had a cain after when I had my back fixed, IT SUCKED BIG TIME. A new knee is only good for about 8 to 10 years, then you need to get a new one. Wait as long as you can be for you do it. Be safe on the bike.

I realized that after I posted it but decided to leave it because its kind of funny. Imagine some dude rides up on a sport bike, gets off and breaks out a blind guy cane.
I can do that!

Just strap it on your back

Quick and dirty could be a couple of radiator hose clamps wrapped around the cane holding two eye hooks and maybe a guitar strap or the shoulder strap from a peice of luggage.

Off the bike, put the strap in your pocket. On the bike, strap it across your back.

If you want it to be nicer Im sure a little glue and a few minutes with a drill could make a nice peice.

I found this!

Now to go find one somewhere local. I don't know what 's worse! Hobbling around like an old man with a cane, or limping around like I just tossed my bike! Oh well, at least I can still ride!

I saw some people using collapsible walking poles today, and thought that this would also work for you. You can get them here in just about any sporting goods store - they are like ski poles, but can be extended or collapsed like the legs of a camera tripod.

I'm sure that one of the sporting goods stores in the Northridge Fashon Center or the Topanga Plaza will have something that will suit your needs ... :)

The folding can I got is just what I need. It takes some of my 200 pounds off the bad knee when it's bothering me. It collapses to 11 inches to fit right in my tank bag. The walking stick might be the ticket for hiking if I can ever manage that again.

I think you should get that typing finger checked out too.
It's not the finger! It's the central processing unit that needs to be checked out!

Maybe you should format ;)
I need to Defrag on a regular basis. My little hard drive is full. Older model, ya know!

Must delete in order to save anything new. Sometimes stuff just deletes all on its own!

Just find the right side plates and mount it like you would a sissy bar on a cruiser. It will stick up in the air about 10 feet because it will be on your tail, but it would give a passenger someplace to lean. You could even fasten a raccoon tail to it.

Dale, go for the gold!! Get DP plate for the Gixxer!

As far as where to put the cane, the subframe should work with some velcro strips. You might even put a rubber sleeve on the cane to prevent slippage and scratching the frame.
