Every bike I have ever ridden has done that. The gears just don't mech sometimes when you stop in higher gears. You should be in first when you come to a stop anyway. Otherwise you will end up playing the clutch and rock game at almost every light.

I think this happens when the gears don't line up correctly when you come to a stop, as ChicsterMG mentioned. To avoid it, either shift into 1st as you are slowing to a stop, or if you already stopped and can't get it to downshift from Neutral, let the clutch out a little and then try again. Usually, it will pop right into 1st. This saves a little time and embarrasment while rocking the bike back and forth in heavy traffic.

The 1500LC isn't immune to that either,,, I try to hit it in first everytime while stopping,,, unless it's a quick stop or I have a brain f*rt. If I do have to try to get it in first after stopped and it is being,,,,difficult,,, then I let the clutch out a little then back in and it usually lets me put it in first.

My S50 is the same way and that's what I have to do also.
