Josh, Josh, Josh!!!!

I just replied to your other thread asking about what things you do in the MSF class. I'm assuming that you are a brand new rider.

I (along with almost everyone else on this forum) do not, I repeat, DO NOT recommend that you get a GSXR600 for your first bike!! That is not a beginner-bike!

I recommend looking into getting a GS500, or even an SV650S as a starter bike.

Edit: Yes, I realize that you were not asking about what bike to get...my advice...get GOOD gear..helmet, jacket, gloves, and pants. Most gear comes in plenty of different colors.

DUDE the GSXR 600 is a RACE bike!! are YOU a RACER???

i think NOT!! so get a bike that reflect's your riding ability. you don't need to get a bike just because everyone else has that bike. if your mates can't ride to YOUR ability with there bike then you NEED to find some other mates to ride with!!! actually i'm looking for new riders as i type this. since the riders i ride with will NOT ride to my ability to help me out!!

riding a MC isn't ALL about who has the fastest bike. or if you could keep up with the next rider. it's for you to enjoy!!

just my .02 cents.

Hardware's right ... it's futile.

I am sure that 'Nut riding a 250 would blow away most any squid on a Gixxer 600 - it's not about horsepower, it's all about rider skill, cornering ability and riding within your abilities. That's what the noobies don't understand.

"My mates are all doing that" I am the only person around who rides a GSX 1400 - I like being unique.

I recently saw a Honda CBR600RR - restricted to 34 hp. :wtf: Why would someone spend almost $10'000 for a race-replica bike, then castrate it down because they don't have the endorsement to ride it? HELLO?

@ above question:
Maybe they plan to responsibly learn on it by restricting it periodically to higher HP levels as they learn better throttle control skills. Those are pretty important in turns.

I would agree than Nut could probably show up most squids in the corners with a less powered bike. But consider that he'd have to be using all avaliable traction to do so. I personally ride with plenty of reserve on roads because I like being alive. I'm not trying to be the fastest in the corners. I'm not trying to be the fastest on the straits either. Don't we support safe riding habbits?

Sometimes, on an empty and mostly strait road, I open up and that's when I'm really glad I am on a 600. It puts light into another gray day full of responsibility and obligations. A 250 would not have the same kick, the same awe. I am not the only person who feels that way.

I got a 600 for those moments and those moments alone. If I was going to mostly track I'd get a 250 because frankly, I am not ready to competitievely race a little enzo between my legs. But I'm not tracking (like most people who buy sport bikes), I have too little time, too many obligations and not enough money. And if I wanted to be faster than everyone on the turns (roads), I'd buy a rope and hang myself. It'd be cheaper and less mess to clean up for the fire fighters or CHP who get there first. (for those who remember: I gave up the silly notion of trying to learn to scrape pucks on unreliable public roads).

Please don't misunderstand. Some people buy 600+s for the wrong reason. Some do it because anything less is simply not cool enough and for other wrong reasons. Some people buy 600s for the right reasons, and I think the forum needs an alternate opinion. I respectfully try to express it from time to time.

hardware i like all the jackets but i am looking for one that matches the colour of the bike im getting.

i have decided to get a 600 restricted as i can learn on it for a year the de-restrict it. I dont want a 125 as i would only have it for a year whereas if i got a 600 i would be planning on keeping it for a good few years.

as most of my mates are doin the same thing.
My objection was with this and only this. If jtg999 had only said "I have a years experience and I'll start off by restricting it, I wouldn't have said anything, but I think we can all agree that the above statement is what gets guys killed. What if his "mates" are all taking off on him up the road? How long before the restrictor comes off?

I don't think it was meant to be funny. You've made up your mind and there is nothing anyone here can say to change it. You are only interested in looking good and having the acceptance of your buddies. Be careful and think about taking the MSF, if your buddies say it's ok, that is.

Edit: I just read your other post. I see you are 16 years old. That explains the peer pressure. I remember what that feels like and I guess I shouldn't have been so hard on you. Remember this, your buddies have only a handful of years of experience between them. Some of the members of this board have 20 or 30 years of ridding experience alone. Give it some thought and you'll live to be a much better rider for it.

Side Note: I'm assuming you are not located in the United States, correct?

What is the deal with the restricted bikes in other areas? How restricted are they? Does it make a GSXR600 behave like a GS500?? I'm not familiar with this at all....

I believe it's something akin to a big washer slipped in the intake channel somewhere, to limit the amount of air (and thus, gasoline, power, etc.) that the bike can take in. Remove the washer, and there's a bigger hole for the air to fit through.
