No. Cafe racers have fairings. Look at an old Ducati 750 SS. That's a cafe racer. Those got that name because of Italian bikers racing around the city. Typically from one coffee shop to another, since they're very popular there. Hence the name, Cafe Racers. History lesson for today is now concluded.

Right!! Okay so let's sum up what we've learned so far.

Hooligan bike = Street Fighter bike = Naked bike = SV650 = My bike.

Ooohh, TL, I smell a post from SuzuukiGirl coming...

Ahem!!

Okay, basically the naked bikes are considered streetfighters because there is less plastic that can get jacked up if you fall. Also why many of them have different handlebars, signals, headlights, etc. Most of it is for the look, but it came from necessity...you wrecked it and had to replace the parts.

But...just because you have a naked bike, doesn't mean you have to ride it like a hooligan!!

My GS500 was naked, and I liked it, but I gotta say that it's nice having a little fairing now on the SV650S!!! :D

I went from having a small fairing and windshield on my 125 (Honda Varadero 125) to a naked GSX 1400. No fairing, no windshield - just me and the elements.

What amazes me the most is the effect that my gear has on the wind (or is tht the other way around?) I have three jackets - all with protectors:

My ISX jacket is great - all weather, waterproof and is comfortable at speeds up to 85 mph.

My mesh jacket is not waterproof (but great for warm days) and also does not cause any problems at speed.

My Akuma jacket is also all weather, but causes a definite upward pressure on my helmet when I'm doing above 75mph. I used to think that it was my helmet, that's one reason why I bought a new one when I picked up the new bike. Now I have narrowed it down to the Akuma jacket ... wierd, huh?

My old helmet (Cirrus . . . an HJC knock-off I think) must have a larger aerodynamic thumbprint (oooh big word! aaaaah) than my Vega. When I get to triple digit speeds (leave me alone!), my neck hurts after a few minutes. With my Vega, I don't have that problem.
