i was out riding with a few friend yest. many of them have gixxers or the like. i have an sv650s. we went over to an open parking lot and they were doing wheelies, etc.

now i've never done a wheelie, but i tried to by slipping the clutch. didn't get off the ground. anyone here have a sv650s and can give me a few pointers on how to do a wheelie? nothing big, just something so i can play w/ my buds :D

thanks,

It's not really slipping the clutch, but popping it. Get your revs to a bit into the powerband and let 'er fly. I like to use two fingers on the clutch and keep two on the bar. Just be prepared to accurately modulate the throttle. Some will tell you to cover the rear brake, but engine pressure has always been plenty of drag to send the boys into the tank. For the record, the Bandit requires no clutch. I'm referring to my brother's dirt bike. Same concept.

Be careful! Good riders learn wheelies through experience, not experimentation.

becareful with using the clutch. I was messing around with trying to pop a wheelie using the clutch on my gsx-r 600. low revs all I got was jolts forward. So I increased the rpms and then I was kicking my rearend out to the side. After the 3rd time of doing that I was done wit the clutch and went back to just using the throttle.

Just a far warning to be careful. Not giving anytips since I am very new myself with wheelies but just expressing my experience recently with using the clutch. start low rpms and move up slowly until you get the tire off the ground.

Not in the clutch

definetlly, you shouldn't be using the clutch at all.
The sv has enough power to lift the front wheel without using the clutch, just bring the revs high then let go so the suspension squezees and bring the revs back up again. But be carefull coze you could easily loop the bike.
I'm not an expert by any means, i'm also starting to wheelie the bike, but tis method is working for me.

you can use the clutch VERY effectively on the street biike if done correctly. If just plain dropping it doesn't work, try dipping it, as in letting it go about half way, and letting it go. Just be careful, it can loop you. The clutch does work. I know a guy who wheelied a ninja 250 8)
