:? Well, getting ready for the very first virgin oil change at 600 miles or so on my 1400 Intruder. Plan to use synthetic blend Castrol 10/40. Any comments, good or bad? Also was planning on using some 100% synthetic 75/90 gear oil in final drive. Good idea or not? I also have the gear oil from my Goldwing, non-synthetic 85/90. Would appreciate any input from bike techs. Dealer told a friend it was best to wait till about 2000 miles on bike before using synthetic to let engine wear in better. But I would like to prevent wear if possible. Thanks! Beachbiker

So long as you change it regularly and use a good quality oil mineral oil will do just as good a job as synthetic and save a lot of cash.
When synthetic oils first came out it was always advised to avoid any mixing with mineral oils but that doesn't seem to be the case nowadays. If in doubt get in touch with the manufacturers.

No matter what you buy there is gonna be some kind of synthetic additive in it. Look on the bottle. I bet it says it's rated to meet or exceed sj/sl/ and some others. If it does then there are almost always friction modifiers in it which are synthetic. I don't think i'd go with a synthetic so early. In fact, i've heard that to get the piston rings to REALLY seal you should beat on it a little.... i've read articles about it and it seems to make sense. I'll send ya the link if I can dig it up.
