Just returned from an amazing 4-day thrash through the Aussie alps.

Hot weather every day, around 35 C.

The bike (97 Bandit 600S) did really well, but the tacho stopped working on one really long and hard ride.

It did come back on very briefly on the way back home but was reading incorrectly.

What should I be looking for?

I had that happen to me just recently. In my case, the wire that runs from the alternator to the rectifier had come umplugged and killed my tach. It also kept my battery from recharging. This may or may not be the case with you, but it might be worth looking at.

Strongly recommend getting more advise from some of the pros that frequent this forum.

Best of luck.
