I was reading a magazine for the military and it had an ad for the new GSX-R 1000. In the small print at the bottom it said "The Suzuki GSX-R line is designed for experienced riders."

I found that very interesting. What are your takes on this.

Is this a good start for helping new riders or an attempt to save a lawsuit?

It just like that little disclaimer on TV car commercails, "Professional driver on a closed course" so they can tell the judge "Look we never told them to do this on a public road, we had a disclaimer"

There's an ad that's been running in the local MC mags over here...

"T-Bone Steak for Sushi prices" - with a bunch of text about the new, affordable Harley 883.

The only problem is that you can clearly see in the picture that it's a 1200. There's a small, barely readable disclaimer at the bottom of the ad saying that the picture is a 1200 - the 883 looks "similar".

I saw an TV ad for a Kaw ZX6R with a helicopter chasing this bike through the mountains. When the chopper lands in front of the bike this guy gets out thinking the rider is the James Bond type guy. The rider takes off his helmet and it's a peach fuzzed kid and he says " huh huh cooooool" Marketing race bikes to 16 year olds is irresponsible imho.

Since when was good sushi inexpensive? If it's cheap, you're probably eating at a bait shop. Even then you can still get a real nice bike for the cost of an entry level 883.

Yeah, they figure average reader won't read the small print, stop by the dealer, see the real 883, then will just have to HAVE the 1200.

Heh heh, I have an open invite to go work for Harley down here in sales. Friend of mine works there. I just don't think I could deal with that crowd. Especially from the stories he tells me . . .

Slightly offtopic but why in car commercials do they always show the cars spinning around, skidding to stops , etc? I want a car that no matter how stupid I drive *won't* spin around like that! :)

Can you imagine a motorcycle commercial like that? You'd be like there's no way in hell I'm ever riding that thing!

Well actually the sportster 883 and 1200 look the same from the outside. They use the same engine, just bore out bigger cylinders in the same engine for the 1200. Yep thats right the "smaller" engine actually weighs more!.

The 1200 will usually have a larger tank on it. On that bike, the size of the tank makes ALL the difference in appearance.

I've got a mountain bike that looks beefier than the 883.

It is certainly a CYA move, but it's also the truth. Like I've said in other threads, current 600's are running 10 flat. That's a rediculous amount of power for any new rider at any age. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

They actually used to have the same disclaimer on the Suzuki Canada web site - I can't seem to find it there now.
