A recent comment from SG1 got me thinking as I usually do (I like to be consistent)

Gixxerdale knows me all too well!!! ;)

I don't race my SV650S; however, someday I definitely would like to take her to the track.

Sorry that I can't be of much help to you yet!
How come guys decide the sex of their bike is "her" and girls, opposite to logic, also give their bike a "her" sex. It's not just you SG1. I mean for guys it's obvious... they would rather ride on a sleek lady then a sleek man. But why do girls want to be on top of a lady rather than a guy? Just an odd curiosity, I'm not trying to turn the thread south. :D

well put it this way....when riding down the street all smoot hand fast and orgasmic, sometimes, would you rather think of your bike as a woman..or a guy ?? lol as for women...hmm dont know. Maybe another reason is when things break down or have trouble fixing and people say "its being a *****" meaning women are complex...who knows.

I'm reminded of a maritime tradition of always giving the ship a woman's name. This was done for several reasons, some were elegant, some fast, some graceful, some tough (cannons and crew), and some absolutely beautiful. The tradition still carries on with a lot of people even if they do not know where it came from or why it is done. Personally, if I could find a woman that was as elegant, graceful, and responded to the slightest touch or input from me, I'd be in heaven, but we all know that such a woman does not exist (same thing with me for you ladies).

Naming your bike:

Referring to it as female:

Keeping it in your kitchen:

It's a tool, a toy, or a machine. It's a vehicle - an inanimate object. I'm quite fond of my Bandit and my Mustang, but they aren't people or pets. Get over it! :p

Well the french language divides all nouns into either male or female, there is no "it" in french.

Since I'm french canadian my motocyclette ( pronounced "bike" in rider circles ) has to be female because that's the way it is.LOL

As far as naming goes, mine doen't have a name besides "my bike".

But, certainly the best name I've heard is "Assignment"

Example:
Boss: -Where is Louis?
Someone: -Oh, he's on assignment.

Oddly enough, I have never applied gender to anything that I own (outside of toys as a kid). I don't know why I'm different, but I just don't attach human characteristics to inanimate objects.

(BTW, the term for attributing human form or personality to things not human is "anthropomorphize ." Don't ask me how/why I know it . . . I couldn't tell you.)

In Romanian, which i am, motorcycle is Motochicletta. Which is a femenine name. Car, Mashina (S)is anncented as SH but can`t get the comma under it. is Aslo feminine. I think because of this people are more inclined to call it Their baby or girl.

Psychology class aslo sais that we like to have ANY affiliation. Thats why we see those crazy black kids running around with Sean John with tags sticking out all over the place runnign around. I love it.

Told a boy with a hat that was an Atlanta Braves hat. Still had the tag on and I was like "pardon me sir, I think you neglected to take out your tag when you bought the hat." He was like Shut the **** up.

Being as its 'stripped down' right now, that makes it 'naked':

I'd have to say, if required, I would MUCH prefer to refer to it in the female sense.

On second thought, its only three feet tall and 350lbs. I prefer not to think of it as a female.......
