Had one 30 years ago on a Suzuki GT 750 (waterbuffalo), disconnected it after 3,000 miles. If it lets out too much oil, you get an oil strip up the side of your jacket and arm. They are great when they work well, but really messy when they don't.

not a chance!

Oh yeah, sign me up for that brilliant idea! What idiot thought this was even a safe idea on any two wheeled machine? Here let me put this lubricant pump by your tire and see if it breaks. I wouldn't want to be the guy that had to test it! Once it causes a few crashes and the class action suits start flying you won't see it around anymore, that's for sure. Wise man once said, "if it can fail, it will". I still like "God must have loved stupid people, he made so many".

To be honest, I never considered the 15 minutes of work every 500 miles to be that much of a problem that I would spend $200 to avoid it. My trusty cans of WD-40 and chain spray, plus a set of rubber gloves and some old towels - total cost: about $15.00.

Oh no, I know nobody's slamming me. I wouldn't ever get one, either, mostly for all the reasons above - I like to WD-40 and Chain Wax my chain, because it makes me concious of checking the chain for wear an tear on a regular schedule. (I hadn't thought about the oil reservoir breaking, though. Good point...)

I just thought that it was kind of a neat idea. The design needs some work, but I think it would be a good idea to integrate into future bike designs.

maybe they thought of it breaking, so they made it really unbreakable. i think its not smart for everyday riding, but for like a drag bike or something, pretty neat.

WTF??

Ok, that's yet another stupid common sense post from SOAD. Do you have a 2nd grade mentality? "Maybe they made it really unbreakable". What crash have you ever seen that something doesn't break, scratch, gouge, come completely off, leak, or otherwise? I don't know about you but I've never witnessed a crash or slow to no speed drop that didn't at least scratch something. No engineer in his right mind who ever rode for 5 minutes of his life would develop a piece of equipment like that. With my line of work I would be forced to clean up a crash if it failed near here. Worse yet, I'd be the guy pressuring the rider to sue the company for developing such a foolish contraption. It's like lawn darts.....think about it!

Lawn darts are a perfect example! You can have fun with them, but apparently some people decided it would be fun to play "catch" with them ... They don't award a "Darwin" for killing other people, so you can't even win an award for that kind of stuipidity.

Chain oilers are usually popular with people who do long distance riding on chain driven bikes. They've been around a long time and have not been problematic. If you're not into 1000 mile rides, you really have no use for one. 8)

Umm, sorry, but this seems a bit strange, since the Pro-Oilers is around for only about 2 years.

I'm using one on my Bandit and though I'm not a grand tourer, I noticed my chain doesn't need a lot of adjustment since I installed the gadget.
Only when it's time to change the rear tyre (every 10.000 km or so)

It does IMHO prolong chainlife, done 50.000 km on this chain, (usually 25.000km, using S100 chainwax)

Greatest asset of this Pro-Oiler is that you can get it adjusted at the exact point between dry chain and fling-off.

Yes, you do have a point,
I just wasn't aware of them being around before, the idea of automatic chain lubrication depending on distance rather than time attracted me.

Winter coming soon here, arriving home after work in the dark at minus 10 (C) I feel a hot tub more tempting than spraying a new coat of wax on my chain every day.
