i've been restoring my bike for the last couple of months and while restoring it i had to fix a leak in the front tire. to do this i bought that green slime stuff that is suppost to stop all slow leaks, but in doing so i think it may have done something to disrupt the balance to my front tire, but thats jsut my thoughts. whats happening is a loud humming noise will come from the front of the bike, starting at any speed and will start loudly without warning and without and pattern. but how it goes away does have a patter, to get to it stop, all i have to do is slow down, to maybe 15mph; that usually takes care of it. what i have also noticed is that as soon as the noise starts, the speedo jumps about 10mph ahead of itself and cannot stay at a constant speed no matter if the throttle is. so my plan of action is to get a tube for the tire, does anyone else disagree with this plan and think otherwise?

I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't read the last post that pretty much everyone agreed that that "CRAP" is exactly that, I don't like it at all. In a motorbike tire, I highly sugest against useing that green stuff. I would never take a chance on a bike tire, I would always fix the problem properly. I have never used a questionable tire on a bike, and I hope that no one elts does either. Go get yourself a new tire, tires are the cheepest insurance you can get.

Sparty, I don't know what you ride or how expensive a tire is for you but just think; If you lose the front end it's all over . I personally could not ride with anything wrong with my front end. I'd just have to park it till I could get it fixed and fixed right. Some people get tubes or plug tires and are OK and some aren't. Don't take chances with your life bro.

sorry i missed that one, which post was it? and i think i was mislead at the dealership, he said alot of people had used it and were very satisfied, oh well. sooo what you're saying is, that putting a tube in it isnt the best way to go? i have to replace the rear tire anyway, when i go to get a new one, i'm either getting a new one for it or getting a tube, whats the verdict?

I think most bike tires are tubeless. Maybe your is, maybe not. Get a new tire and tube if your bike requires one. The Chad is right though, tires are cheap insurance.

um, not that smart at all methinks. i'm assuming this isn't a dirtbike we're talking about....

if your bike calls for radial tyres, get them fitted by a pro, and the wheels balanced at the same time.

or if you are using tube-type tyres, and there is damage to the tyre (and not just the tube) that damage will only increase with mileage (along with the danger of it completely falling to bits)

in fact i've just got a new set and the feel of fresh tyres makes you soon forget the cost....

all those Fix-A-Flat and Green Slime tire repair kits are meant to be used on car tires as a temporary measure to allow you to take your tire to a professional and get it properly patched. Warn them you put it in there because it is flammable, and when they deflate your tire to remove it from the rim and patch it, they could end up wearing a ton of it and they will not be happy about it if you didn't warn them.

FIX THAT TIRE properly or buy a new one. :)

Do not tube the tire, the tires of today are not to be used with a tube. Like I said, good tires are the cheepest insurance you can buy, even though to outfit my bike with new tires costs me $750Cdn. When you use the green slime in a car tire, the person reparing the tire MUST remove all the sealant from the inside of the tire before conducting the repair. The sealant doesn't alow the patch plugs to work properly. I heavly dislike that tire sealant stuff, I sugest never uesing it unless there is no alternitive. Buy a new tire, put on the spare( this applies only to cars and vespa's)Stay away froom the green goo.

Be sure the bearings, and front end are sound, along with the triple tree (where the forks connect to the frame). A loose axle or bad bearings can cause wobbling and some funky noises. Also repack the bearings, and lube. Some older bikes run the speedo from the front tire with a cable, this may be dry. I agree with the other posts DON'T use the fix flat or slime products, because the can put a tire out of balance, and makes it a pain in the *ss to change. If the tire was old it should be changed anyway, (5+ years), they do have a shelf life.

your humming noise is most likely a bearing, if left to sit for extreamly long times, bearings will actually mark the bearing races, they're relitivly cheep, replace them.
