check out this group of postings.. read all 26 or so pages of it and then decide if you still want that gsxr-600 as a first bike. http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/sh...f69fd1&threadid=53101&perpage=15&pagenumber=3

ps. I have an 03 gsxr-600. I got it for almost half price of a new one. I was considering selling it for a gs500f... now, I'm still confused but after reading that post i'm leaning a little bit more towards the gs500. Why? cause then when I get really good I can beat on it and LEARN more. MY gsxr-600 is a sweet ass bike. that's why i'm having trouble letting go. sure I can ride it nice and light like I do now (never taken the msf course) but how will I ever improve??? I go around a corner and lean about as much as it is when I have it on the side stand.... big deal. It feels like alot more than it really is. If I do end up sellinf the gsxr, I know in a couple of years i'm going to spend the $1000.00 in aftermarkets to make it what I have right now. sounds dumb but i'll be able to ride it 10 times the level that I do now. Just felt like posting what i'm feelin. and if anyone wants an 03 gsxr with some sweet mods.... lemme know!

Here's the first page.

You'll always find some lucky people who haven't gone down on their larger bike. That's not to say that they're good riders, or that it's not a bad idea. Some people win at Russian Roullete, too. For a while, anyway.

How long have you been riding your gsxr. Give it time become one with your machine. Eventually you will get use to the powerbands and handling.

I think the adapting curve is the same with most bike regardless of the the size or power. Some bikes arent as forgiving in situations. Just take time. I think it takes a full season to get use to a certain bike. All motorcycles handle differently even if they are the same year and model.

I can ride it just fine, but i'm nowhere near being a great rider, just good and cautious because of the power the bike has. I've had it for more than a season already and i'm used to riding it. I just don't like having to concentrate more on how much power it has than having fun and foolin around outside. a larger more horsepower bike also has a higher learning curve. i'd rather start on something smaller and be able to wring the bikes neck before I move up to a bigger one. I love the bike, and yeah it makes me look cool... but I bet a guy on a honda eliminator 125 could beat me in a race around curvy roads and have much more fun than me doing it. I want to be the guy that can ride the bike he has as hard as it will go and further....then get something better. i've got a long time to live, so why get a 600 now. I'll get one a few years down the road and then really be able to ride it.
