this forum is very strick about wearing gear and i totally agree, its tru nobody likes to wear a helmet but most like myself chose to for our own safety. and seeing as the post is answered i thought i would ask a second question on the helmet front. what are your oppinions of a faceless helmet like above?

personally i would rather keep my jaw, chin and mouth if i fall off so like a full faced helmet. i know all my biker lot agree, but whats ur takes?

well, according to the chart they showed us in the MSF course, the highest injury point on the head is the jaw area. So...easy to see it would be worth it.

other side of the coin: some people look at the helmet's main objective to keep you from splitting your skull open. a brain bucket type helmet and 3/4 helmet (what i wear) will do that. i guess a broken jaw bone is a livable injury??

all personal preference, as long as you wear SOME type of helmet i think you are doing the right thing. no helmet is just stooopid (no offense to those who dont, but you are living on the edge).

Personally that is all I will wear is a full face helmet. I don't want to mess up this pretty face. lol! I wear one with a flip up chin bar. I find them much easier for someone who wears glasses. I can leave them on when I put on my helmet.
Only thing is full face get hot in the summer.

I always wore a helmet before I bought my current ride. At the time, I had no helmet and the purchase was not planned, so I had no lid. Nervous as hell, I drove the bike home and then marveled at how good it felt without one. I did pick up a full face Shoei for when it gets cold or if I expect it to rain. I know the risks of not wearing one, but that feeling of open air is HARD to beat. I'll wear this one (just cause it's soo damn cool lookin!!!), but probably not all the time.

At the dealer I bought a helmet that looked good, was comfortable and DOT legal. It's not a turtle shell helmet, but just slightly larger. Although I am concerned about safety, I was more swayed by style at that moment.

It's likely that I will go and buy a full helmet in the near future, simply because I would like to structure my gear choices on the type of riding I will be doing.

I wear a full face to keep warm in the winter, say below 40 degrees, or I know the whole trip will be in hard rain. In the summer I wear the smallist, non-DOT beannie I can find, as the Georgia helmet law just says I have to wear a helmet, it does not say it has to be a DOT helmet. Whenever I go to a state without a helmet law, I don't wear one at all. But each to their own. As Safety Office for the Georgia Southern Cruisers Riding Club, and an occational riding instructor, I recommend all new riders wear a DOT helmet no matter what the law is in there state, but in the heat of the South in the summer, the smaller and lighter the better. Once a person has been riding for about 20,000 miles, I figure they can make up there own mind.

so you are a "do as i say not as i do" kinda person i guess?

i am wondering how hot it will be here in FL with my 3/4 and face shield. i am going to pick up some glasses with interchangeable lenses i think and be able to take the shield off for summer riding back and forth to work in traffic.
