 Anyone know if the speedometer in the Suzuki S40 can be changed out for one with a trip meter. I ran out of gas the other day and sure don't like trying to remember when I got gas last - Someone tell me this can be done
Does your bike have a low fuel warning light? My light flashes after about 125 miles. Easy enough to remember on a new bike, but I may have to either use a calculator when the miles accumulate or just simply fill up every 100 miles.
Do they have a low fuel light? Or any other indicator? If so you may be able to get a buzzer of some type to take you out of the standard "I Love my bike and I can ride forever" joy that most of us have!!!
Nope-no light or buzzer or bell-just chug a lug thump thump and roll to the side of the rode. Haven't learned how to switch to reserve on the fly yet :scooter:
If it's digital,,, which I am not sure if it is or not,, then there might be a button where you can reset the tripometer by holding it in,, at least that is how my 1500 works.
Last time I did this I got chastised for sending someone to another forum, but here goes. You might post a query over on www.suzukisavage.com and see if they've come up with any creative solutions. In my view, the lack of a trip meter is the only shortcoming of an otherwise great bike.
Yes, that seems very strange. I know on my bike, I push a button and it flips over to the trip meter, but it doesn't display the odometer and the trip meter at the same time, it's one or the other...is there something like that??
No. There is only an odometer and speedometer. It's not a big deal if you are on a long trip because you know distances between towns and all. But when you are tootin' around town and don't have to gas up for a couple of weeks or so, it sorta bites.
Maybe keeping one of those grease pencils isn't such a bad idea. Or at least get one of those small spiral notepads. Keep a mileage and refuel log. But gettin aquainted with the reserve switch might be a very good suggestion. Wonder if anyone makes an aftermarket fuel indicator or different tank with a fuel setup in it? You could always stick a measuring stick down in the tank,, sorry bad joke,, Good luck on it.
Well, thanks guys. Guess I will check with the dealer because tooling around is all I do and I just am not paying attention to the miles-thanks again for your input
Hi all ... I Ride a Savage/S40 ... and yes not having a tripmeter is a pain, but here's a cheap solution that really works ... go to WalMart and pick up one of those small luggage combination locks (the one with the 3 rollers with the numbers on 'em) ... they're inexpensive, only a coupla bucks. Carry it or clip it on the bike somewhere (I carry mine in a fanny pack strapped to the sissy bar) ... everytime you fill up with fuel, dial up the last 3 digits on your odometer ... that way you don't have to remember and you can check when you last gassed up at any time! Works great!
Cheers!
