Good evening, My 09 model bike had a bad fuel pump so I took one off of a 2012. The bike started right up and I rode it for about 2 hours with no issues. Two days later I tried to start it and it just turns over and over and over. When I run error codes the first think that comes up is D:01 with the number 10 under it. The lowest number code I can find is a 12. Is this telling me I need a new throttle position sensor? Thanks for your help!

I would not jump to conclusions. I would check the fuel delivery since the problems started with a bad fuel pump. What made you think the original pump was faulty anyway.

good luck

Hey Steve, The bike would run OK if I was just putting around, as soon as I throttled up to highway speeds the bike would start cutting out as if it was starved for fuel. After doing a bit of checking online I figured the fuel pump was not providing enough fuel to run the engine at higher speeds. I removed to fuel pump and it was really bad. I tried to rebuild with an after market fuel pump, no start, bought another rebuild kit, again no start. I found a guy that was parting out a 2012 so I bought the fuel pump assembly from him. I installed it and the bike started up just fine, I rode it about two hours that evening making several stops and had no issues. two days later no start. Plugs look good. Battery is new. Engine turns over easily, and will even lope once as if it wants to start. I don't want to jump to any conclusions I just need to know what D:01 10 code is telling me. Thanks Jimmy

Cant help you with the code but I wonder if the fuel delivery is getting restricted....maybe the fuel tank vent is blocked. Perhaps Yamaha might have the code info you need or a specific forum....not much help I know but until you find out what the code relates to you're in the dark. I did a search and found no error code you describe....may be worth re visiting the setup for finding what codes are showing..... steps seem very convoluted to me.

Good luck

Thanks Steve,
I didn't want to go to the parts store and shell out 50 bucks for a gauge that I would prolly only use once, but I guess I have no choice. I had an error code of D:01 with a 10 underneath that. I put a new TPS in and tried to start the bike. No Start. Now the error code reads D:01 with a 12 underneath it. Understanding Yamaha's fault codes and diagnostic monitoring code no. relationship tends to be confusing, at least to me it is.

Is the 12 telling me the TPS circuit is fully open? the only 12 I find is for the Crankshaft position sensor. it is my understanding that if the CPS is bad the check engine light will flash when you try to start the bike. Mine does not flash, it just stays on.
How can I clear all the old codes that have been stored up over the years?

Thanks for your help,

Jim

I was not just shot gunning a part. I thought that is what the error code was telling me. Yes I do have the choice of spending $160 per hour at the dealer, I would rather not do that. That is why I am here asking questions. I did not enter the forum to get smart a answers to my question from one of the forums moderators. Thanks for nothing Easy Rider, I'll check elsewhere.
