I am 5'6" and still growing. I grew 2 inches in the past six months. I find it difficult to ride sportbikes because of their big seat height. If it is possible can you all contribute your height and the seat height of any/all the motorcycles you are riding? I want to know if anyone of my height is also there riding a sportibike/motorycle. Any infomation is kindly appreciated.

You can have a sportbike lowered. Also the older models weren't as tall like the fizzer 600's. A 5'2' friend of mine rides one that she had lowered.

You don't ride with your feet on the ground, right? So who cares?

I know it sounds flippant, but the nutcase has a point. The more you ride, the less you have to put your feet down. You'll get to a point where you drop your left foot after you've either put it into first or neutral when you have to stop. And one foot on the ground is a big difference from both.

I don't care what you guys say about learning to deal w/ it...maybe after I've been riding for several years I'll be able to not have a problem w/ not touching the ground...

In my opinion, especially for a new rider, it's important from a comfort perspective to be able to touch comfortably (at least with the balls of your feet) while seated on the bike. I know that when I'm at a stoplight, I don't want to only be able to touch the ground with one foot...especially with the chances that the one foot could slip on some oil, sand, etc...

Maybe I'm strange, maybe I suck as a rider because I had my bike lowered so that I can be more comfy??

No one sucks. I was just hacking on wgd9891 for being short (like me).

There's nothing wrong with lowering the bike. I mean . . . who wants to ride something that's too tall? It's like riding a motorcycle on stilts . . . or wearing pants 5 sizes too tall. Not comfy.

<sorry if i offended>

Shaving the seat down is an option.
I wear pants with a 30 or 31 inch inseam. That's a more telling dimension than overall height. I spoke to a salesman at a dealer at length about this issue when purchasing my bike. Once he realized that I probably wasn't gonna' buy from him because his price was too high, he was much more forthcoming with info/opinions. His inseam was a little more than an inch less than mine.

He picked up a K4 600 and was struggling with touching. He said that he shaved his seat himself and it made all the difference for him. He figured he took about an inch off the overall height, without affecting the aesthetics or the functionality of the bike. He did this within a couple of weeks of taking delivery. And he said it was very straightforward.

I'm not normally flat-footed with both feet when I stop. I am if it's one foot. And I am if I have a passenger on the back. I'm happy with this.

Before I would consider lowering a bike, I would investigate the seat-shaving route thoroughly.

I dunno if inseam is a great way to measure. I wear a 30 inch inseam and have no problems. I can't flat foot it, but my heals are just barely raised.
I don't wear pumps with 3-inch heels, though. Hehehe - jk.

Speaking of which, that's another way to get your feet on the ground. Thicker soles. Decent boots that have even a half-inch more soul than cheap boots or tennis shoes may be enough to make the difference.

Misinformed? No. Although I do respect Gixxerdale's knowledge on this topic.

My info is from riding. I'm always seeing these small yellow things. They shrink, no matter what size they are to start. It's somewhat disconcerting at times, but I never seem to have to worry about them as they disappear quickly. The only time I see them is in my mirrors, though. Kinda' strange, isn't it???

Then I WOKE UP!!!!!
Ol Yeller, ain't no way as fast as our Red uns! Right Jess?

Back in 02 When the gixxer was new, I got pulled over while legally passing a slow car. CHP asked if I knew why as usual. I said "a little over the limit?" His response was "Ya, I got you doing 61 in a 55. That bike even looks fast when it's going slow." Found out he rides a red R1. Needless to say there was no Driving Performance Award written that day! Just a 1/2 hour worth of bikes and roads were discussed!

ABSOLUTELY right. The faster something goes, the redder it is. Our bikes are definitely red. Ipso facto faster than yellow.
