I am interested in the volusia 800. My last bike was a harley 1200 superglide but i don't think i need a bike that big now. My concern is the power of the volusia 800 especially when u have a rider. How is is on long runs? any help from volusia owners would be helpful before i make a final decision on a purchase. Thanks in advance

Volusia Owners League.com has lots of info and Bias'd opinions I'm sure.

I'm 6ft 180Ibs, my wife is 5ft....140Ibs. Bike has no problems 2up, but then we live in flat Texas.

For the $ vs. ride, I'm satisfied!

Also see Cruiser Magazine December 2001 issue on 9-800c bike shootout.

How long is long hauls?

HB, The 800 is a real nice ride. The torque comes on right from the bottom. You may get razzed a little going from a hawg to a Metric. But I'll tell ya, you can ride this bike all day and not get tired. For the price, Can't beat it.

Used to have a Volusia. It's a fantastic bike and a steal for the money. Get a Mustang seat plus a decent windshield and you and yours can travel in comfort all day long. Two up, it's a little wanting in the higher mountain passes if you want to cross at speeds above 70mph, but that's the absolute worst thing I can say about the bike. On the open road between 60-70 mph, it rides well and sounds like a dream...
For not much money, upgrade the suspension to Progressive Suspension's fork springs and rear shock. You'll wonder how you ever lived without it and it makes the bike handle better than bikes costing several times what you paid.

Enjoy!

Got a similar question. I work construciton in Nebraska and want one to drive back and forth to work from the camper can be up to 60 miles to work everyday. I am 6-3 and probably 380 will this be enough bike. I can't really afford bigger and think smaller just wouldnt' have the power.

I bought a 03' and I'm 245lbs., wife is 125lbs. and I found it lacking in ability at 60+ mph unless you are low enough in rpm's to down it a gear! Good bike for in town but did'nt perform on the open road with 2-up and t-bags. I traded in for the LC1500 and what a big differance. There are alot of well taken care of used bikes out there to get at decent $. My opinion, #300lbs. max for that bike, get what you need in every aspect the first time around. Just an honest opinion!!!!

The Vol would be fine in the flatlands of Nebraska, but I wouldn't consider it a viable chocie for you for two up riding or taking it in the mountains. If you go with a Vol, get yourself a Corbin Young Guns or Solo saddle and you'll be cruising in comfort. Avoid the Mustang seat as it pushes you forward and at 6'3", you'll feel way too crowded on the Vol.

For higher-speed cruising and mountain pass climbing, etc., I'd strongly suggest the LC1500 which has by a fair margin the most spacious ergos of ANY big cruiser for a man of your height. It also has a pretty damn comfortable stock saddle. You'd be wise to consider picking up a late model used LC1500 in excellent condition for little more than a new Volusia.
