I had always heard you guys talking about those that will wreck and those that have yet to wreck, but I never thought it would happen to me. I gave a girl a ride on my bike tonight and I went beyond my limits and I lost traction. The bike slid out from under me and we fell off. I am a damn idiot because I had been drinking and I had always told myself I would never drink and ride, but my dick got the best of me. So now my front brake is broken, my pipe is bent, and my right fairing is scratched to hell. I feel like I have given bikers a horrible name tonight, but I have learned. So now I am gonna have to pay 3 thousand dollars of damage because I was an f'ing idiot. Never again will I do something so stupid. I am extremely sorry for everybody and I hope nobody makes the same mistake as me, because I could have gotten both of use seriously injured. I don't even know what to say other than I'm dumb as hell.

Rule #1, don't think with the wrong head.

All I can say is WHY? She should have kicked your ***, that is if she wasn't all f-ed up due to the crash. Why in the hell did that girl get on the bike w/you after you had been drinking anyway? You should look out after your friends and not be thinking of trying to show off. VERY SMAAAAAAAART . . .

Time for you to grow up man. Putting your own life at risk is one thing, but someone else's? Why in the hell would you get on the road after drinking? Let alone on a BIKE?

I hope that girl is OK.

Sorry I re-read my post and it sounded a little more vigilant than I meant it to. I hope this did teach you not to mess around like that with other people and drinking. I hear the story too much to find compassion sometimes....

How much damage to you and your passenger? What gear was involved? Be glad your still alive to get chastised on an internet forum, it very easily could of been much worse.

Big of you to admit your mistake. Your pennance is to teach at least one other squid how not to do what you did.

Sounds like you got a cheap lesson. Learn from it. I never, never, never (did I say NEVER?) ride after even one drink.

I must echo the sentiments of my fellow FORUM'ers..."LEARN FROM IT & MOVE ON!"

We're all entitled to mistakes, some more severe than others but those who are fortunate enough to walk away from mistakes can either use the experience as a valuable tool or disregard it & face harsher penalties in the very near future.

If it helps any, I'm 100% certain that there are no PERFECT riders/people that exist. We all constantly strive on a daily basis.

You should feel bad, but not too bad. At least no one got hurt.

I, too, learned the hard way about drinking and riding. My one (and so far, only) horizontal excursion happened after I'd been putting up a fence in the heat . . . drinking beer . . . using post-hole diggers . . . for hours . . . not counting them until after I wrecked, and then going, "Man, X beers? I swear I don't even feel buzzed."

Learn from it and move on. Like Rowdy said, teach another (or two) with your example and all will be forgiven.

You didn't pick up a DUI did you? I sure hope not. Luckily, I didn't. I just stuffed my turn signals into my pockets and rode my crooked-fairing, broke-up Bandit back home in total disgrace. Mud on my knee . . .

$3,000 sounds a little high for the damages, but it's no t like I'm looking at a photo or anything. I was able to pull the fairing off and straighten out some brackets and stuff, saving me a lot of cash.

You should think about repairing it yourself. Insurance-wise, it may be cheaper for you in the long run.

Be careful!

Good post Beneldor. You're taking responsibility for what happened - that's the first step to not doing it again. You're also throwing out your bad experience for others to perhaps learn from at no cost to themselves. Good for you. Good luck getting your bike fixxed up and ride on! I suspect you'll make up for your past sins. ;-)

Let the perfect rider cast the first stone...
