We always hear the east coast folk going on and on about Deal's Gap, 'The Dragon'. Is it the only twisty road out there? :)

I was wondering what west coast roads are just as fun/scary as Deal's Gap, there's got to be a bunch of them. I know there are alot of great canyon runs out here but maybe they don't fall into exactly the same category as Deal's Gap? Is Deal's Gap notorious because of bad road design? :) Here in WA there's plently of mountain roads. A trip up to Paradise on Mount Rainer is pretty twisty stuff once you're inside the park and the ride to Sunrise on the other side has curves, without guard rails, that if you run off the edge you get to drop hundreds of feet to the rocks below. I've also made the trip up to St Helens which, thanks to the whole place being blown up 20 years ago, has a really nice wide road with huge sweeping turns like a race track.

Deal's Gap is famous for the number of great curves it contains and, these days, the high level of traffic enforcement that occurs in that area.

Big turn off, if you ask me. I'd rather ride more discreetly, without 100 other riders acting liek idiots in the same area.

I have been fortunate enough to ride on both coasts... I rode the dragon when I was 19 and loved every second of it, almost left the DEP and didnt enlist to stay and work there... But I have to admit the rainer loop 512 is Awesome too! Id still like to ride the PCH... Maybe if I ever get stationed in CA...

PCH is gorgeous. Done it a ton of times in my car. Plan on doing it on the bike soon (GOTTA SELL THIS DAMN CAR... anyone wanna buy a 96 ford escort?) Only problem is driving through LA traffic to GET to the PCH. But once you are there, its some of THE most gorgeous coast line there is, and the twistys are pretty prevalent. Not to mention there aren't too many cops on it, at least i rarely saw any.

Great pics doc booty !!!!

Even though there isnt a Deals Gap everywhere in the country.. there's plenty of great twisties to get it on at, all over the country and many times right in your back yard. Go exploring one day, and see if you cant get yourself lost.. you'd be surprised at the roads you'll find to ride. Just remember to fill up b/4 u go exploring.. ;)

Hey I was thinking of cruising PCH this Sunday. It's not too far from me though, I live in Huntington Beach. Yeah, Starbucks on Main Street between 7 and 8 in the a.m. sounds like a plan. Maybe walk the pier and check out the women...

I think I just talked myself into it.

Mike head up here for a weekend and ride the Santa Monica Mountains and Angeles Crest. They'll make you forget all about PCH.
