Does any body know for sure whether item 5 in this drawing is a filter or a one way valve? The local wrench told me it is a one way valve but the parts list calls it a filter. The one on my VS1400 will let air flow in both directions. Also, when I pulled the hose from the boost sensor there was gasoline in the hose. ????

Its hard to say it could be either one. Does the thing have an arrow on it, indicating a way you should install it? If it does, I would say its a one way valve.
