I had an HJC Symax before but I sold it with my last bike. I bought a standard full-face helmet with my new bike last week but I intend to buy another Symax soon. They have a full face flip up which is really nice when you're cruising around town or need to adjust your glasses, wipe your face, etc. They're comparable to Nolan's full face flip up but at half the price.

I wear a full face HJC CL-14. Actually I've got two of them now and the second one has a cool sportbike-guy type pattern but I wear it anyway. ;)

Given the number of bugs and rocks that have bounced off my visor I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't use a full face helmet. If you want that wind in your face feeling you can always flip the visor up.

Obligatory full face helmet plug:

WHY WEAR A FULL FACE HELMET

I just got a Bell Mag8, which I'm quite please with, its a 3/4 helment with a face shield that goes up and hides under the visor when not needed, its sure been keeping the bugs out on the highway, I've always worn open face in the past. I only wear full face on the snowmobile!

I have a Scorpion. The pads are extra coushioned and can be taken out to wash them when needed.

There are a ton of vents in the helmet as well, which is nice here in the Desert of Arizona.

The shield is also fog and scratch resistant. The dealer showed me a visor that is from one of the helmets. He took a peice of rock and it didn't scratch the visor. Needless to say, I was amazed!

I've got the obligatory cruiser beanie, but 99.9% of the time I wear my HJC Symax.

btw - I got it cheaper from the local dealer by getting them to beat newenough.com's price, but I a smoked replacement shield and some different cheekpads through newenough.com - you can go up or down a size on the cheekpads to help the helmet fit better.

Anyone watched COPS tonight? (Yes I need a life)
Some poor sap was running from the cops on a motorcycle, clipped a truck
and spilled.
The poor sap was wearing a beanie, that cracked when he hit the ground.
There was blood on the inside of the helmet, so you know there was head trama.
So if you choose to wear a beanie, dont run from the cops, and ride safe please ;-)

Yea, I saw that too. His head was certainly cracked as bad as that beanie. At least he was still alive when they put him in the ambulance. Idiot was running from the cops because he had two misdeanor traffic violations. The damage to the truck was unbelievable. The bike just sheared the entire front drivers quarter off of it. Never run from the cops kiddies.

Top 3 choices:
Shoei
Arai
Soumy.

Yes the others are certified to be safe but these are usually the most comfortable, quiet, lightest...y'all get the picture. They may cost a bit more but you get what you pay for and its only your head

My Shoei RF 1000 cost me about $350.00 at Cycle Gear. I figure I'll get about 5 years use before I get a new one. $70.00 a year is nothing. A lot of people spend a lot more on far less important stuff every day!

Just my 2 cents.

If you look at the link from St0nkingByte, you'll see that the most common head injury is to the chin area. I wear a full-face Shoei with the visor closed at all times when I'm moving. I've taken too many flys/bees/hornets/pebbles/stones/road debris/:wtf: was that/etc. to the face and head to consider ever riding without full-face (and upper-body) protection.

I am not convinced about the flip-up helmets. I wouldn't want the mechanism to fail in that second where I REALLY need it to protect my face. I don't want to be eating my meals through a straw for the next 8 weeks because my helmet didn't do what it is supposed to!
