This is getting old, if you haven't read all reasons, do read ALL the reasons.
If you have, and still don't know, go get one, and thin the herd to make more room for us.

Bat if you dont have anything intelligent to say then dont say anything at all. I know there are several forums that discuss this issue i just needed a little bit more explaning please were all in this together i dont want to go out and kill myself but i just want to enjoy my motorcycle and not feel bad about what i bought. Also there is huge difference between a beginner bike and say a Gixxer so wont the throttles be diffferent regardless of how much expierence i have on a beginner bike??? Its just i think whether you have expierence or not if you hit a bump and goose the trottle and you wheel goes up couldnt you still panick?? just saying cant the same mistakes be made whether you are a beginner or not?

This was just discussed to death this week, all you have to do is read the past posts. there has to be 50 postings on this matter under Street / Sport Forums as well as Main Lobby.

Besides you just asked the same question on June 20th.

yeah hate to be rude but its starting to feel like this is the only thing talked about here. look around and youll see tons of threads about it.

all i really can say that hasnt been said is: fear the gixxer. it should command awe, respect, and MOST importantly, fear. one small mistake and your front wheel is 4 feet off the ground or your headed into a tight turn way too fast. a gixxer will make you feel like you can do stunts and rip through traffic, and in the right hands those bikes can do just that.

the honest truth is that most people on here that are so passionate about steering noob riders away from those bikes because they know someone who has died or they/a friend has been seriously injured on one. there's nothing like a skin graft to remind you for the rest of your life what you did wrong.

also, buy gear first and the bike with whats left. gear is the most important thing EVER for any motorcyclist.

get the gs500f if you want good looks. try a used bandit 600 for a more powerful bike that is still managable to learn on. if you absolutley have to get something faster than the bandit, try an sv650s. it looks good, handles awesome, and is fast. thing is its STILL not as deadly as a gixxer, r6, or cbr. good luck and be safe.

Yes, there is a huge difference in the throttle control between a Gixxer and a beginner bike. Supersports bikes are way more sensitive than other bike making it harder for a newcomer to recover from mistakes. Plus, with the additional power and torque, this can result in dangerous situations.

You always have to get used to a bike when you change, they all have their own particularities. However, it's best to learn on a bike which is more forgiving. When you start riding, you already have to concentrate on many things: good riding habits, safety procedure and mastering your bike.

Once you got experience, then you can move on to more twitchier bikes.

Hope this answers your question.

//You have the information and the opinions of those with more experience. What you do with this is up to you.

//True freedom includes the freedom to make mistakes. You can do what you want.

// I'll be shouted down, but I don't think it's all that big of a deal. Get what you want. Odds are still better than 70% that you'll be ok.

//If you think what I did that Saturday AM was all that dangerous and you don't do anything that dangerous or worse(I was never within 100 meters of the oncoming traffic), you probably won't end up seriously injured. You'll probably drop the bike at low speeds and feel like sh!t about that.

//I do advise you flatly not to take passengers until you have a year's experience. Also, keep the rpms between 3k and 5k, not just for breakin, but for several thousand miles beyond that. Allow more room for stopping than you would in a car. Look behind you before you think about touching the brakes or downshifting (allowing more room gives you time to look around and plan your slow/stop).

i dont usually hang out at biker bars cause i dont think those harley guys like imports or non cruisers. if you know one thats not "cruiser only" then sure id go! my bike wouldnt keep up with those sport 600s but id catch up in the twisties. im home for the summer (leesburg, 35 minutes out from wash.) but i go to school at marymount U. in arlington.

the 650s is not as powerful as the gsx-r 600. the gsx-r is made for go to extremes on the track, through turns, and with stunts. sv650 will be an immensly more enjoyable riding experience that still has some kick.

i reccomend coleman powersports in falls church for sportbike sales. great guys. just dont get all that extra **** they try to sell you cause most of its already covered by your insurance.

Yes it's a free country, you can do whatever you want. We are just trying to give the facts, and even other forums for supersports bikes will NOT recommend getting such a bike for a newbie.

Did a bit of research:
YZF 600R: 98HP, 48lb-ft torque
SV650S: 52 HP, 62lb-ft
Katana 600: 80 HP, 40 lb-ft
GSX-r 600: 115 HP, 50 lb-ft
GS500: 51 HP, 30 lb-ft

The R6 compares to the GSX-R 600. Way too much of a bike for a newbie in my opinion.

great bike but not quite as harsh as an r6 if i recal correctly. never ridden a yamaha but they sure do look comfortable.

98g is right, what will save you in the end isnt the power in the bike, its the maturity and responsability of the rider. if your friends want to drag on public roads or take turns at 100, do your own thing. you should want to spend alone time with your bike anyway

///Looks like Yamaha's answer to Suzuki's SV650. Seems to have a more upright position that the SV650. I think I'd prefer the SV650, but that's an off the cuff opinion based on very limited information. I've never ridden either, and only sat on the SV650. Though I did form a very positive opinion on the SV650 right off the bat.

///If you can live with delayed gratification do it this way: Buy a used EX500 or GS500. Ride it this summer while your buddies are all riding their 600cc sportbikes. You'll be able to keep up, because the limiting factor will be skill, which you will all have equally. Next spring sell the EX500 or whatever for what you paid for it. Buy whatever you want at that time, no limits. Even a liter bike or whatever. At that time you'll have a brand new liter bike to their year old 600, and enough skill for it to actually make a difference.

//I'll catch sh!t for suggesting an open class or liter class bike as a second bike, but EX500 for a year followed by gsxr 1k would be safer overall than started from nothing on a 600 sportbike. My first bike was a 700 virago (less performance than a EX500) and my second bike was a ZX11(fastest thing made that year). I put 42k miles on it over the course of 4 years before I got hit from behind while stopped. I must have been doing something right (or just lucky).

Yes the sporty look of the bike makes me interested in them, 98G dude you are a savoir thanks for that tip thats all i needed to hear i will stick with the suzuki GS 500. There is alot of wisdom in your last post 98G please forgive me if i ever insulted, your ability to still give me advice on which bike to give shows your level of maturity and i just want to say thanks to you and revolution and louis for taking the time to answer this post, i realize that its a ongoing topic that has been discussed but in the end maybe what was said before doesnt apply to me and i needed to hear something different to fully understand THANKS ALOT 98 G You are the MAN.
