To have the Yang to the Yin of the Sportbike thread

I bought one because i want to be out in the fresh air and enjoying the scenary. Moderately comfortable seat and riding position, nice low center of gravity, legs and arms stretched out with the wind cooling me off.....

I love the looks of a bright flashy sportbike with matching helmet and gear, but figured i would want to live more and more on the edge with speed, twisties and stunting so ive stayed away since i was 20 (13 years).

You nailed it on the head!!!!

I bought a cruiser for the same reasons,, I like the comfortable ride and I want to enjoy that ride,, whether it be up the block or four hundred miles away. A cool breeze,, tasty waves, and a nice... wait a minute,, that's a surfboard,, no the cruiser is a longboard of the bikes,, the sportbikes are the shortboards. ;-)

At the time I thought sportbikes looked extremely uncomfortable and I thought that only pimply faced squids rode them. Black leather is much more slimming than bright yellow.
I've never been about speed, even on the ski hill I take technical turns and keep the skis on the snow. I also thought of comfort as well.

comfort and safety.

i'm short, so heightwise the sportbikes are completely out of the question.

I was looking for a 'standard' but came across my Marauder and bought it because it just looked like what I thought a motorcycle should look like, my wife said it was 'the one', and there was a lunar eclipse going on which I took as a good omen. So bought it on a whim basically. Wow that's not exactly the well informed deep insight you were looking for was it? :)

I had a dream, regarding again having a no nonsense, naked motorcycle like I had when I was 20 years old. It was a 1960 Triumph Bonneville, that I bought in 1962. I also wanted a reliable, modern water cooled engine with shaft drive. "The dream is more important than the reality!" The reality being that the '60 Triumph, by today's standards is not a great bike and always did need a fair amount of regular wrenching to keep it on the road and running well. The cruiser that I bought, a Suzuki S50 Boulevard is everything and much more then the old 650cc Brit bikes ever were. So, in the end, I got more then I bargained for with the S50. I have the naked, no nonsense bike of yesteryear that corners as if on rails, and is light enough for one man to load on a pick-up bed, but I have none of the headaches created by "Lucas, Prince of Darkness" or the old style chains and fussy Amal carbs. Todays cruisers are the best motorcycles ever, while maintaining an "Old School" look.

Now there ya go stereo typing us! Mines comfortable, I'm not a pimply faced squid anymore, well at least the pimply face part is right. Guess you can be a squid at any age! Oh, I prefer to ride in my all black leathers too!

I guess I've always been a speed junkie, but I prefer having both tires firmly planted. It gives me real bad muscle cramps when one breaks loose at triple digit speeds!

Come on out, we'll trade bikes and I'll take ya on one of my little day rides! :scooter:

All my 7 bikes over 30 years have been cruisers. I enjoy the frest air, comfort, and looks of cruisers. I'm 6'6" tall, and have never found a sport bike that was comfortable. I'm not into speed, wheelies, twisties, or dressing like a Power Ranger when I ride.

Go,,Go,,Power Rangers!!!!

I like the looks of the sport bikes,, I really liked a BUell I looked at a few years ago,, but I was in a high speed head on collision on the interstate in July of 2003,, my '97 Dodge Ram 3500 going 75-80 mph southbound versus a '98 Olds Cutlass(front wheel drive type) going 80 mph when she crossed over the median,, three and a half hours later the interstate opened back up, the two lifeflights flew away, and they were pulling me off the board,, man that tape hurts when they ripp it off your forehead.

So after that I survived but my back isn't as good as it used to be,, I really can't ride a sportbike for long,, I tried sitting on them when I bought my cruiser,, but the back started hurting just sitting on them,, so I knew they were no longer an option. :-(

The 1500LC is by far one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever sat on. I guess that goes with that "Lazy Boy on Wheels" name it has. Once I get my Mustang two up seat,,well it will be alright..... \

So that is why I bought my cruiser when it all boils down to it,, if my back ever gets completly healed then I may look into a sportbike,, but for now,, I just need a tv and it will feel like home. :)

I'm telling you that two tone is quicker!!!!

You may not believe me,, but there was this old indian chief that told me his great great grandfather's cousins husbands sisters mother's uncle's wife's brother's nephew was the guy who made the indian motorcycle.

It is a little know fact that the reason they started painting bikes two tone was because the insurance agencies were cracking down on bikes going to fast and people who got speeding tickets.

After years of exhaustive research and finding the secret files of the Germans from World War II where they conducted experiments with eye decieving methods and the original stealth concepts,, the bike builders found that ANY bike that is considered too fast for legal purposes,, well,, they could be painted two tone and that it would break the eye's focus ability.

This would make a VERY fast bike look like it was a Very slow bike,, thus allowing all the really fast bikes to do what they were intended to do,, go fast!!!!! And the police and general insurance reporting public would never know the difference!!!!

That's why two tone bikes are really the fastest bikes,, plus when you put chrome on it they go even faster!!!!! :)

I don't know why I bought a cruiser !

Seemed to be a good idea at the time.

Don't get me wrong I don't regret getting a cruiser, I've been having a great time with it but I'm sure I would have appreciated a standard or a sport tourer also. Not so sure about the crotch rockets though ( comfort wise for a 6'2" 240 lb rider ) and there is no way my wife would get on back ( only time she'll get into that position is at the gynocologist ).

At least she will get in that position.

At least you have a wife that will get in that position,, my woman has a hard time getting in any different position,, it always cuts off air flow to her legs,, plus she has a hard time riding on the back of my bike,, any gust of wind then she blows right off the back of my bike.

But then again,, that's life in the fast lane with my woman "Blow up Betty" :)

Actually us shorties could ride a sportbike if we wanted to with a little work. Look at this pic. This woman is 4' 10". Her husband lowered her bike. Here's the thread with pic:

4' 10" Tall Riding 600SS

P.S. I ride a cruiser because I like the way it looks, its comfortable, and I think its easier to start out on a cruiser. Insurance is a little more reasonable too. The Savage leans in the twisties just fine (have scraped the footpegs on more than one occasion). I might want a sportbike someday but then again maybe not.
