One of my riding buddies just put a 1k engine in his 600 frame. Then he decided it would be a great idea to have some impressive acceleration abilities so he played with they sprokets some until he ended up with a -2/+4 combo. In 3rd gear his bike pulls about as hard as my busa, I didn't want to throw the throttle any lower than that because of his sproket choice but I seriously don't see him staying where he is for more than a couple of days. There is no way to launch this thing without short-shifting so badly that you don't get near pk hp until atleast 3rd and it took everything I had to be able to keep the front end at a managable level even then. I understand wanting a sleeper and just plain wanting a faster bike, but even I think this is overboard.

PS. Was one helluva ride though!

Whoah! Was it one hell of a chore to get the 1000cc onto a 600cc bike? I know the bikes are different so aren't the frames different?

Oh yeah, sounds like overboard....

Tell him to keep a close eye on the frame welds, especially
around the swing-arm/rear sub-frame area. The bigger motor
will put alot more torque on the frame in that area and quite
possibly break them. Back in the late eighties a friend of mine
put an 88' GSXR-1100 motor in an 87' GSXR-750 frame and
while drag racing it one night he had to shut her down about
3/4 track, he said it got all kinds of ugly with him and he could
barely hold it on line. We thought the rear axle was loose, but
found out the frame broke in two places. Could've been nasty.

You mean why do people post vague, one-word titles to their threads? Don't know.

As for the other question, sounds like a fun dragstrip project.

both frame and motor are from 02. Putting the engine in, according to him, really wasn't that hard. He said it took him about 6 hours once he had all the required equipment. Needed to fab some brackets for the engine mounts since they were slighty off.

I am supposed to race him tomorrow so will let you know what the results are. With his sprokets it should be interesting to say the least. Then tomorrow night he is re-gearing for a bit more streetability.

Rowdy, it made you look in here didn't it?

Pics wouldn't do much for ya, looks just like every other 02 gsxr 600 yellow and black out there with the exception of the oil cooler that you can just barely see.

Weather permitting the race will be in just under 24 hours so you gotta wait atleast that long

We are waiting for some better (slightly warmer) weather to come out before we do our runs. Went on a quick ride earlier and he was getting no traction. don't help that his rear tire needs replacing so now it doesn't look like he will be using the same sproket set up when we do run. Still, will be nice to see just how far back he is.

JK> most of the parts are fairly interchangable yes, but I took the swing arm from the 1k. I will not be in Fl too much longer and do remember what twisty roads are supposed to be like. I'm just waiting to get the swing arm powdercoated before putting it on my bike so it will match the frame.
