I was wondering from those of you that ride with a windshield, does it make the ride on highways at 70+ more enjoyable? I'm thinking of putting one on my Red M50, I found one with bracket's for $200.00 (DAKOTA WINDSHIELD 149.95) Chrome Mount kit 84.95 (picture of a M50 with mounted looks good. any feed back would be appreciated.

A windshield MAY help - but it can also make things worse. If your screen is too high, it can hurt the aerodynamics of the bike, costing you power and gas. If the screen is too low, the airflow can flow over the screen directly into your face or chest.

My GSX 1400 is a naked bike - no fairings at all. I installed a small windscreen this winter, and am happy with it - when I get up to high speeds (over 100mph) I can drop my chest onto the tank and have my head right behind the screen - and have noticbly less wind resistance. As soon as I sit up again, the bike will lose about 10mph.

It will absolutley make a difference. I honestly don't know how people ride down the highway without them. The first time I rode down the highway at 70mph with no windshiled I thought. Why the heck did I just buy a motorcycle, this isnt any fun. I rode 120 miles and was sore for 3 days.

There is a guy in here that just put a windshiled on a balck M50. It looks really good. Its one of those kind that clamps to the bars. If I find the thread I'll paste it.

Looks like you found it. :)

I would also like to know what windshield would work with my M50. I am 6'2", so I need kind of a tall one. Can you all let me know some types and websites where I can go look for one. The Suzuki factory windshield is tooooo short.

I'm 6'2" also. I just got the stock Suzuki windshield on my VS 800 Intruder. It looks great and it works very well at 45 mph or less. When I get to 50 mph, my head starts to vibrate. It's not bad unless I'm headed into a strong wind. Then my head gets tossed around, and it's really annoying.

I'll keep it (for now). The vibrations will reduce once I get a full-face helmet.

Had 6 bikes, only had 3 that I rode on the street. Never had a windshield. Never road more than 200 miles in one day though. I can see where long rides might be better with a wind screen. Always liked the wind in my face, then I found it is safer to have a full face helmet. Sometimes I ride with the open face and more often with the full face.
Still can't see getting a windshield any time soon though, maybe in five more years when I turn 60?

Have you tried adjusting the pitch angle or height?
I have found that a windscreen makes highway cruising much more of a pleasure than without. I have also converted from a half helmet to a full face. What a big difference!

Every time I get back from a 100-200 mile ride and spend 15 minutes cleaning all the bugs of the windshield, I'm real glad I've got that windshield catching those bugs. Especially the ones that make a quite audible "smack" when they hit the windshield.

Corbin has come out with a new wind deflector that I am hearing alot about. It bolts to the handlebars and creates a lip that deflects the wind over your head without causing a big wind block. They said they are in the development stages for the Intruder 1500LC/C90 so maybe they might be in development for the other Suzuki bikes as well. If enough people call about it then maybe they will build it.

I don't know if I can adjust those things on the stock windshield. I'll try. Thanks!

I bought the windshield for my rauder last year after I had a wasp fly inside the chin bar of my full face helmet. I almost jumped off the bike in the middle of the road. That's when I decided "yup definately getting that windshield"
I much prefer the look without it but the advantages far outweight the disadvatages in my mind. Couldn't imagine something more painfull then getting stung in the face at 70mph then kissing the pavement because of it. Then you have to deal with the whole "Pride" thing.

I can tell you that I am 5'11 and I have a memphis shade 19" and I have it adjusted so that it is about 20 1/2" above the headlight and that it still a little low for me. For my height another inch or two on the shield would be nice.

Being from the south as well, I know exactly what you mean. Getting pelted in the face by some of these bugs is not enjoyable at all, and I can't imagine what that would be like at 70+mph. I have a Memphis Shades windshield and it works great. I do take it off from time to time on shorter/lower speed trips, but if I plan on a long ride, the windshield goes back on.

I use my full face helmet at speeds higher than 55,,, for general cruising under 55 I have been using my halfshell,,, bugs don't hurt that bad at 55 or below,, but they do get your attention.

It really doesn't make much difference to your head if you hit the ground at 10mph, 50mph or 100mph. You can sustain fatal brain damage just by falling over and hitting your head on the ground, even if you weren't moving before you fell.

As I've said many times before ... I never get on my bike without my full-face helmet. I've had too many insects splatter across my visor at 35mph - I really don't want that on my face!
