Looks like a great investment.
I just bought one from another member. So hopefully I can install it soon.

Can someone shoot me a PM for installation instructions? I want to get my tools together before the drive comes in.

Good results

I do not agree with 4dtvman. The DJ drive is definately worth it. When getting on a highway or at speeds over 60 one seems to want another gear. The DJ mod makes that "feel" happen. As far as the bottom end, just give it more right hand and it works just fine. It also "smoothes" out the whole feeling of a C50. The new 5 gears are really spread out so it makes it feel like 6 gears. It looks just like the stock C50 drive you took off. If an M50 has a black drive, (dunno) then it will be replaced with a silver color drive.

As a byproduct, you may get about 14% better mpgs - I have on occaision gotten 57-58 mpg. I rarely drop below 52 mpg in combined, mostly city, riding. Your right hand has a great deal of influence on your mpgs. Vibrations and engine working at fwy speeds is greatly reduced. This aspect also reduces rider fatigue.

Installation is simple. If you know how to take the rear wheel off you can do it. It is very helpful to have a MC jack. I chose the "file the holes" elongated instead of the drill with a 9/16 drill bit - it leaves more metal. There are articles at VR about various methods. Even with a few tries and pulling the U-Joint out (put it back in with a broom handle as noted in the instructions), it only took about 1.5 hrs to install. Have a new cotter pin handy. Drain whatever oil is in the drive and fill it with new Amsoil or whatever you like - just make sure it is correctly filled.

There are others who are just selling the C90 drive, then you have to modify it. Some others have not done as much testing or research and there have been some expensive problems. Use your own judgement on your own skill/fabrication levels. The DJ drive is a bolt-on mod and makes the bike so much better. I was surprised that an M50 bought one - I thought those would want to retain their "zoomie" aspect. I left off the fake swing arm - it doesn't really do anything. A couple of pounds off makes up for more junk bolted on the bike - every 6 pounds is worth 1 HP.

I am surprised at the general "Negative Response" from members here on this board. There are some naysayers on the VR board, but in general, most of the comments and results are "Positive Responses". Maybe I am mistaken in this, but it seems that way. Oh well, make your own choice.

I won't post any links, just go find it yourself - I wouldn't want to upset any rules or "the old guard" here.

just my 2 rubles

I'm on the waiting list for this, was #71 on May 2 2008. sould be soon. What do you mean be zoomie aspect. I have a 2007 M50. I agree with you though, don't need a bigger bike just lower rpm's in fifth.
FYI, the only thing negative I have heard about it so far is holding the clutch slightly longer out of first. and those that have mentioned it don't call it negative. I just added a Glpro gear indicator with ATRE, since doing this I find I'm off the clutch quicker and with more power. will be interesting to try this with and without when I do the DJ mod.

Even us M50s deserve lower rpms :)

The M50s aren't much quicker than a C50 its just the styling. I just like the m50 styling over the c50 styling. I painted mine black as soon as i got it and its held up pretty well.

I don't know if you aware but there is another guy who sells modified C90 drives. And they are as reliable as DJ drives. And there is no big waiting list either. I am sure he can explain better all the details.

hamlings8@msn.com or 1-605-641-3444.

yea but he stole dj's idea, doubt rick has over 20,000 miles of beta testers like dj did before he sold one.

I want to remind you something you probably read already.

Rick Hamlings owns those drives and he can do anything he wants to with 'em INCLUDING profiting from Dan's idea.

I'd think some of you are still buying light bulbs from Thomas Edison.

There is a guy in Ohio who buys C90 drives, modifies the driveshaft and supplies the rest of what's needed to install it on your bike.
There is a guy in South Dakota who does something similar and sells the drive on e-bay. Pick a vender, install the damn thing and ENJOY THE F'N RIDE.
There are enough people using hamlings drive with no problems at all.

You want it right away - you got vendor for it.
You want to wait on a wait list - you got vendor for that too.

Enjoy capitalism.

Your not helping his cause any. :lol4:

I'll still wait for the guy that put the time an effort into the drive construction. makes you wonder why there is a waiting list for Dan and not the other guy doesn't it !

yea but when you have an agreement with a person you honor it, the people using this drive are essentially now the testers as he sold them without extensive testing first, like you say to each their own.

you say they are as reliable? i wouldn't. different process for rick's. his uses original c50 shaft. dan's uses the c90 shaft.

Yah i think viper had issues and he's using a c50 shaft on the c90 drive. But I dunno if its related.

i think viper did his own mod of the drive not rick or dan's design. but viper did use a c50 shaft and personally i would use the shaft that the drive was designed with, but that's just me, i'm on dan's waiting list and am willing to wait my turn, plus when my time comes i will go to dan's and let him install it cause i'd like to meet him and you can't ask for anything better than having the inventor of the mod do the install.

I could not agree with you more!!!:bluethum:

:plus1:
I was thinking about taking the trip too.

I got no personal interest in either drive. Just stating the fact that there are more than one person who's doing such mods.

Like Cobra sissybar and Mutazu sissybar. Same BS but different manufacturer.

i understand what you are saying as far as no personal interest, which i believe you don't. i'll go to dan others can go to rick if they choose.

OK, I read about the first 40 pages on the VL board and skipped around all the way to page 140.. I am sold, I am saving my penny's up for this. I figure if I am going to shell out $250 plus for passenger floorboards I can shell $500.00 for this.
